After an application is approved, the design will be officially registered. The Industrial Design Office will send your lawyer or patent agent a Certificate of Registration, which is your proof of ownership. You will then have the exclusive right to apply that design to an article for the purposes of importation, rent or sale.
An industrial design registration gives you exclusive rights to the commercial production, marketing and sale of your product for ten years. It also prevents your competitors from importing a product that copies or very closely resembles your design into the country where your design is regitered.
An industrial design registration can also be sold or licensed to others. If you do not want or do not have the capability to produce the product protected by your industrial design, you may be able to sell or license your design to another and earn a royalty on their sales.
